Charlie and cam are two beautiful little bonded chis who have come to us from the stray kennels! They ars a darling pair who have clearly been well loved in the past. They would suit a family who understands the breed and wants a lap dog and gentle walking buddy! They are a bonded pair, although a bit like an old married couple at times! So are looking for a home together

This is what their amazing foster family have to say about them:

If you’d told us a month ago that we would meet and fall in love with two chihuahuas, we would have laughed at you. When Lauren suggested them as potential fosters we very nearly said a flat-out no, or make that a hell no! Something about their story though appealed to our sympathies and our relish for a challenge and before we knew it we had Charles and Camilla under our roof.

Bear in mind that they had been described as shy, reclusive and distressed. We were expecting two terrified little souls who were likely to hide for weeks and have to be coaxed into having any human contact. Lets just say that they did not meet expectations and more or less immediately settled in our home and more specifically our laps.

We’ve always shied away from small dogs – hounds and mutts have always been our thing. The kind of dog that takes up the whole sofa and can counter-surf with ease. The sort that you can take on long treks on the beach or through the woods and watch helplessly as they disappear over the horizon after a seagull or a deer. If it’s not at least up to your knee in height then it’s not even a real dog is it?!

Consider us converted!

Charles and Camilla (just the names are enough to make you smile) are an absolute joy. They came to us as a bonded pair which I think is an accurate description, although I think that Charles is slightly more “bonded” than Camilla. He seems to gain confidence when he’s with her, whilst she doesn’t seem quite so reliant on him.

Charles is a gentle little soul. He’s not overly confident but loves a bit of attention and enjoys a cuddle. Camilla has a bit more attitude and doesn’t hide her feelings but you’d struggle to find a dog that enjoys a cuddle more than she does. It’s a good thing that I don’t suffer from jealousy because she has completely stolen Dan’s heart and I swear that he’s never looked at me with THAT much love!

Whilst initially Charles was scared of the stairs, he now bounds up and down them with ease. Camilla is less enthusiastic and refuses to use the stairs – to be fair this could be due to her tiny little legs or more likely due to her sense of royal entitlement and desire to be waited on. We have addressed the situation by bowing to her wishes and carrying her up and down in a basket lined with a blanket whilst being careful to address her as ma’am or milady.

Charles is not keen on wearing his collar and tries to eat his lead while out for a walk. It wouldn’t surprise me if he hadn’t been taken out for walks before. He’s finding his confidence though and loves a good sniff. If we both go for a walk and he has a human to himself then he walks on the lead like a dream. Camilla seems more accustomed to her lead. She walks really well as long as you’re not in a rush – she loves to check her pee-mails on every wall, fence, lamp-post and bin.

Charles is not what I could describe as toilet trained. If Camilla is with him then he will go out in the garden and do his business but if she is not available to chaperone him then he will go in the house. He is improving though and we have progressed to puppy pads which he now uses 95% of the time. She is toilet trained and apart from one little incident (which unfortunately involved a little unexpected parcel of poo and Dan’s bare foot) she has been clean in the house since she arrived.

Charles and Camilla are both really well behaved. They respond really well to the word “no” but in fairness they rarely do anything that requires correcting. They are not destructive in the slightest and haven’t caused any damage since their arrival. They are both good with other dogs, the few that they have met. We have a regular visitor to the house called Ted – he is a bichon cross and incredibly timid. It has taken a few meets and a little bit of tension but they are slowly becoming a little trio of cuteness. They haven’t encountered a cat or a child since their arrival so I’m unable to comment on how they are with either.

Charles and Camilla haven’t been left alone since they arrived with us. This is something that we need to work on and will start leaving them for very short periods in the coming days. They sleep in dog beds in our bedroom and have slept through the night most nights. They have only been on short trips in the car but they haven’t shown any obvious signs of distress and are still and quiet on the back seat the whole time.

Whoever adopts these two will be incredibly lucky. They are low maintenance and provide so much entertainment and pleasure. We didn’t have any experience with small dogs before fostering them and expected them to be yappy and feisty. We couldn’t have been more wrong – they rarely make a noise and always seem eager to please.

Could you be the proud new parents of Charles and Camilla?
